Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei were very famous astronomers of the Rennaissance. Galileo used a telescope to discover many moons and stars. He also spoke against the church (the church being the roman pope and churches) and said that the planets revolve around the sun. The church said that everything revolved around the Earth. Copernicus also spoke against the church, and he lived before Galileo.
