Fra Angelico
Fra Angelico was born sometime in 1395 in Vicchio. Fra Angelico was an Italian painter described by Vasari in his “Lives of the Artists” as having "a rare and perfect talent". Sometime in his life, he was praised as "the Angelic Painter”. Following Masaccio's premature death around 1428, Angelico emerged as the city's most modern and sought-after artist. As his clientele quickly expanded beyond the Dominican community over the following ten years, he completed a large number of altarpieces, private devotional works, and fresco commissions.
